Press Release

Protect the Health Rights of the People

Our serious attention has been drawn on the incident of disruption of health services as a result of an agitation by doctors stating that their demands are not addressed. The nationwide indefinite strike called on by Nepal Medical Association (NMA)  protesting against the government’s decision on making law to compensate doctors involved in a death of a patients during negligent treatment has deprived patients from receiving health services.

The Government of Nepal has already said that the law relating to the compensating doctors will not be made immediately however the Medical Association  has made clear that their strike will continue until the immediate law of imprisoning those who abuses doctors is not made.

The Emergency Service Act has prohibited on disrupting the health service and such inhumane act is a direct violation of constitution of Nepal. There are no one above law and in our country, taking such deeds as a bravery has definitely motivated the impunity.

Such act of disrupting emergency service like health service in the name of strike has risked the lives of so many people and we would like to urge the Medial Association to maintain its professional discipline by bearing responsibility towards the lives of thousands of people. We would also like to draw attention of Nepal Medical Association and government that there is always an option of dialogue to solve the issue.
