Condemnation of Violence in Name of Protest
The arson, vandalism, and looting during the protest by the former king’s supporters in Kathmandu on March 28 violated democratic values and the right to life and property. A journalist lost his life in the arson. A protester has also been reported dead. Attacks on political party offices and media houses in the name of protest cannot be considered a democratic practice.
We call upon the Government of Nepal to fulfill its responsibility of ensuring the security of citizens and their property, take legal action against those involved in the violence, and implement necessary security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the deceased and wish a swift recovery for the injured.
