INSEC Organized Capacity Building Workshop for Civil Society Organization Activists

INSEC, an implementing partner of Civil Society: Mutual Accountability Project (CS: MAP), has organized a “Workshop on Promoting Accountability and Professionalism of Nepali Civil Society Organization” among the Civil Society Activists in Kathmandu on June 20&21 2019. The objective of the workshop was to enhance understanding and knowledge of the youth activists on Civil Society Organization (CSO) governing legal and policy issues, instruments and contexts. Similarly, it has aimed to enhance their capacity for further strengthening the CSOs’ accountability, transparency and credibility. INSEC executive director Mr. Bijay Raj Gautam has presented the context of the CSO governance in Nepal where 36 (16 female) participants from the youth led organizations participated in the program.

The workshop has divided into three sessions. The first session entitled “Ensuring Social Accountability and Transparency of CSO” was facilitated by Jitram Lama, Chairperson of NGO Federation of Nepal. During his session he has encouraged the participants to ensure the tools and policies that visualize the transparency of CSOs. He has shared that CSOs should be transparent in utilizing the resources and accountable to the people to whom they are targeting to deliver the result.

The second session was facilitated by Kedar Khadka, Chief Executive of GoGo Foundation. The session entitled “Internal Governance and Policies for Promoting CSO’s Credibility” was focued on the principles associated with CSO. Facilitator, Khadka, has presented that people management, standard policy formation, implementation & evaluation, mechanism for handling grievances, resource management, communication and integrity are the major issues of internal governance.

In the second day, project coordinator of INSEC Shree Ram Bajagain has presented the CSO governing legal and policy frameworks in Nepal. Furthermore, Tanka Raj Aryal, Legal and Policy Advisor of FHI 360, has encouraged the participants to contribute in Nepali civic movement through their increased skills, knowledge in governance.
