Heartfelt Condolence 

 

We express our heartfelt condolences upon the untimely passing of Teknath Baral at the age of 85. He was a dedicated human rights activist who had devoted five decades to the cause of human rights and social justice. In this time of grief, we extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Mr. Baral, a founding member and former coordinator of the civil society network established in Pokhara during the armed conflict, played a vital role in advocating against domestic violence towards women, anti-dowry campaigns, social initiatives targeting inequality and corruption, and combatting various forms of discrimination. He played a role in the monitoring of the violation of human rights and humanitarian laws during the armed conflict, actively participated in the movement for the establishment of democracy, and the rights of conflict victims.

INSEC honored him with the Prakash Human Rights Award in 2005, established in memory of the founder General Secretary Prakash Kafle appreciating his contribution in the field of human rights and social justice. His demise has caused an irreparable loss in the field of human rights and social justice in Nepal.

He will forever be remembered by Nepali society for his significant contributions to the field of human rights.
